Psyched Surfer: Welcome to the Blog!

Psyched Surfer Blog

Hello!

Welcome to the Psyched Surfer Blog! Odds are, if you have stumbled across this post you are probably someone who is passionate about surfing.

“What the Hell is a Blog?”

Right now, this project is in the very early stages. I’ll be honest with you, this is the first blog I have ever written in my entire life. Hell, I didn’t even know what a blog actually was until a few weeks ago. Little did I realize I had been reading blogs without knowing since I had first used the internet. This is also the first website I have ever designed on my own (doesn’t look half bad!).

Why Did I Decide to Start Blogging?

Domino Effect

What made me decide to start blogging was actually triggered by somewhat of a domino effect. 6 months ago to the day, I made the decision to get sober, mostly for health-related reasons. But, during my journey of sobriety, I realized now I had this abundance of time to fill since I was not going out anymore. Naturally, I used this time to start surfing way more often than I was before. Also, In addition to surfing, I spent lots of time lifting weights and running. So far, within those 6 months, I have lost approximately 40 pounds! But there was still something missing.

“Stay Hard!”

I’ve never been somebody who likes to read books. But, after hearing a recent podcast between Joe Rogan and David Goggins, I immediately became interested in reading David’s books. I started with “Can’t Hurt Me” and then read his recently released book “Never Finished. Both of these books lit a fire under my ass! The same weekend that I finished the book “Never Finished” (haha), I ran from El Segundo to Hermosa Pier and back (8.2 miles)! These books have nothing at all to do with blogging but certainly made me realize that I was not using my time effectively. Deleting my social media apps helped me gain even more hours back that I didn’t realize I had.

What Next?

Now, with my physical health in order, and my time management better than it has ever been, I needed to find even more productive things to fill my time. I started brainstorming and rattling off different projects to work on, and blogging came up. Curious, I’m like “Wait, what the hell even is a blog?”. So naturally, I consulted youtube university as any good millennial would and did some research.

Double Down on Your Weaknesses

Writing has always been one of my stronger points, but web development, marketing, and online engagement were not. After living and breathing the Goggins Ethos, I realized I should not be doubling down on my strong points. I needed to double down on my weaknesses. Blogging is just that (and surfing, I am terrible at that too). Sure, writing comes naturally to me but content creation, marketing, engagement, SEO, graphic design, and web development sure as hell don’t. Thus, the very blog you are reading right now “Psyched Surfer” was born!

I am mainly using this blog to hone in on my weaknesses, as a creative outlet, and because I believe it will help me become a more knowledgeable surfer. As of right now, this blog is not monetized and is not a business. However, if I am successful and start driving enough web traffic, I will turn it into a business and continue to expand it. Being my own boss has always been a dream of mine, and it would be really cool to have the flexibility to work wherever and whenever. Nonetheless, I am far from that and need to focus on what is in front of me at the moment, and right now this is a hobby.

Conclusion

If I haven’t put you to sleep yet talking about my self-improvement journey, leave a comment below and let me know what kind of content you want to see! Most of my content to start will likely be written articles, but I may start a video series at some point also (another weak point of mine). I hope to one day hear someone mention in a surf lineup mention they read something from Psyched Surfer!

  1. I keep listening to the news bulletin speak about receiving free online grant applications so I have been looking around for the most excellent site to get one. Could you advise me please, where could i find some?

  2. I’m really loving the theme/design of your web site. Do you ever run into any internet browser compatibility problems? A number of my blog audience have complained about my website not operating correctly in Explorer but looks great in Safari. Do you have any tips to help fix this issue?
